PARO AG relies on PLM with PRO.FILE to engineer its assembly systems

Karlsruhe, August 23, 2017. Headquartered in Subingen, Switzerland, PARO AG specializes in the manufacturing of production and assembly systems in the fields of assembly automation, injection molding automation and transfer systems for a wide range of industries. The company relies on PROCAD’s product and document lifecycle management solution PRO.FILE to reduce leads times and increase manufacturing flexibility.

PRO.FILE allowed PARO to go “paperless” in its projects. This means that all of its technical and business documents are captured and managed digitally and that its business processes are controlled through workflow management – for every single employee in the organization. To achieve this, a total of 50 PCs and workstations at PARO were connected and now enable access to PRO.FILE, which serves both as a PLM and a document management system. Once PROCAD Schweiz AG, PROCAD’s Swiss subsidiary, had implemented the software, PARO was able to autonomously maintain and expand the system through configuration alone. Users, groups, and permissions, items, bills of materials, documents, projects, and workflows can now be added without any outside help.

Document management is a part of PLM

The PRO.FILE application DMStec (document management system for technical companies) matches all documents created throughout the product lifecycle to the technical structures of the production and assembly systems at PARO. These systems comprise more than just technical data and CAD drawings, they include incoming contracts, delivery notes, and invoices along with any documents created in-house and all email correspondence. All of this is captured (using scanners and interfaces with the ERP system and MS Office/Outlook) and filed in the appropriate project folder. This allows PRO.FILE to serve its purpose as a seamless Product Data Backbone, enabling PARO AG to go completely paperless in its projects.

Automation for shorter lead times

A crucial step towards maintaing and enhancing a company’s competitiveness is reducing lead times. PARO uses the Solid Edge CAD system. It wants to be able to use notebooks to present its customers with 3D designs of its assembly systems already during the proposal stage as this eliminates costly and time-consuming changes to finished assembly lines and workstations after the fact. To achieve this, Solid Edge is integrated with the PLM system to enable management of these documents. On top of that, PRO.FILE is also used to manage the production drawings and blueprints created with Solid Edge along with the master data for all of the related parts. In the future, PARO also plans to manage the electrical and electronic components from its EPLAN software in the system.
